This is a picture of Elias with the nora virus at midnight. He has had a fever and a headache for several nights now and is not getting much sleep, so he crawls into bed with us. It really makes me feel like a mom when he is sick.
After my night of tending to the sick, I did a presentation on Nurse Practitioners at the Evergreen State College. It was great to encourage people in becoming nurse practitioners. It took me a long time to get over feeling embarassed over being a nurse - that it wasn't as good as being a Dr. I now have a great deal of confidence in what a wonderful profession it is - and how the primary care we provide is better than what medicine offers. So, I really enjoyed sharing that with these students and spreading the message. If anyone ever wants a power point lecture on NPs - I am your woman!
I have also decided that Tuesdays will be poetry day in my blog-o-universe. My first choice isn't very valentine-y, but I read it recently and it really stuck in my head.
No Second Troy
Why should I blame her that she filled my days
With misery, or that she would of late
Have taught ignorant men most violent ways,
Or hurled the little streets upon the great,
Had they but courage equal to desire?
What could have made her peaceful with a mind
That nobleness made simple as a fire,
With beauty like a tightened bow, a kind
That is not natural in an age like this,
Being high and solitary and most stern?
Why, what could she have done, being what she is?
Was there another Troy for her to burn?
